About the Original Version:

"The Message" is an old school hip hop song by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Sugar Hill Records released it as a single in 1982 and it was later featured on an album named The Message.

Though not the first in the genre of rap to talk about the struggles and the frustrations of living in the ghetto, the song was unique in that it was set to a slower beat, refocusing the song on the lyrics over the music.

BLOW YOUR COVER:

  • Georgina Dobson & Cupboard Simon is one odd couple. And their take on the classic rap-song "The Message" turn the song upside down. A 78-year old greyhair, angelic old lady from London singing about the backstreets of N.Y.? Wow, what can I say. She is having a good time singing this song, and you can hear her giggling between the verse. I don't know much about Cupboard Simon, but thanks man, for making this record. Here are some more info about Georgina Dobson:
  • Ex-Girl Guide Brown Owl, former bookkeeper, Georgina's always had the roar of the crowd in her blood. Her mother was a star of the old music hall and Georgina has trod the boards since she was a gel, singing Gaelic and choral songs, acting (not long after her 70th birthday she was playing Ariel, Shakespeare's 'airy spirit', in a production of The Tempest) and performing self-penned poems like 'Nightclub Proprietress' and 'The Lift Attendant'.
  • Talent spotted by Cupboard Simon, they began a collaboration which culminated in 'Message To The Nation', an OAP's-eye-view of the city, rap stylee.
From the Album: Misfits- 27 tracks from 18 strange fruits (1995)

first time on the site. my computer played this for me to today and I found you looking for the album it came from. Have you heard of 386 DX? I think it'd fit pretty well here, so well that you've probably already covered it. Anyway, thanks!
